Drought Effects on Morpho-Physiological and Biochemical Traits in Persian Oak and Black Poplar Seedlings

چکیده
In many arid and semi-arid regions, increasing water scarcity pushes woody species to their physiological limits, making strong drought resistance essential for adaptive forest management. Here, we examined morpho-physiological biochemical responses of the forestry-relevant Persian oak (Quercus brantii Lindl.) black poplar (Populus nigra L.). a 120-day greenhouse pot experiment, seedlings were subjected three watering regimes (FC100, FC60, FC30, indicating percentages field capacity). Under FC100 conditions, all biomass measures total specific leaf area significantly greater compared those poplar. FC60-exposed exhibited declines in relative content (RWC; −33%) carotenoids (−46%) surge electrolyte leakage (EL; +51%), while these parameters did not change oak. Although both showed 80% EL under FC30 suffered more severe damage than as evidenced by 65% lower survival, stronger reductions RWC chlorophyll, well increases oxidative stress markers. Accordingly, displayed drought-related 56% decline quality index only statistically insignificant occurred seedlings. The superior implies economically viable nursery production better seedling establishment, suggesting shift towards oak-dominated forestry its natural range future climate projections.

Morpho-physiological responses in Alnus subcordata and Acer velutinum seedlings to drought stress
In this study, the effect of drought stress on morphological and physiological characteristics of two forest species: Alnus subcordata and Acer velutinum, which are used in natural forest restoration and afforestation, was evaluated. A factorial experiment was conducted based on a completely randomized design with two factors (two species and four levels of drought stress: (25% (severe stress),...

This study was carried out to investigate the effects of foliar spray of salicylic acid and ascorbic acid on some morpho-physiological traits of Pistacia vera cv. Badami-zarand under drought stress. The experiment was conducted during 2017-2018 in the greenhouse condition, in a factorial randomized complete block design with three replications on pot plants. The soil texture of experim...
متن کاملEffect of Recurrent Selection on Drought Tolerance and Related Morpho-Physiological Traits in Bread Wheat
Drought is one of the major abiotic stresses affecting wheat yield. A recurrent selection program was conducted to improve the drought tolerance and yield of bread wheat using drought tolerant advanced breeding lines from a drought tolerant x susceptible cross (HI 1500 x HUW 510). The parental lines were evaluated for yield, biomass and harvest index (HI) in addition to the drought adaptive tra...
